with the pkt 8's in the sb, wouldn't it have been better to just call and plan to set mine against raising pre with so many callers?#7

hi ukcoolcat:of course you can complete on set value. thats definetely profitable. but you always have different lines to choose which all have a different expected value - and its about to find the best EV. in this spot you have to evaluate the strenght of your hand. you face 3 limpers, MP2, MP3 and BU. in average middle position and late position limpers don't limp TT-AA. well, there are exceptions but its just not that likely. espcially BU and MP3 almost always have to raise their strong hands. if they just overlimp they really risk a multiway pot and usually no strong hand likes that. consequently the only better hand(s) are 99 and maybe TT. this will make up such a tiny portion of all other hands those guys can limp here. we have a must raise here though - for value and protection. for simplicity I would push directly, as stated in the video. but even as played it has a higher EV than completing.
in this spot I would push 77 as well, with the lower pockets the complete gets more interesting again since now better hands are more likely and the coinflips we have aren't that good any longer.
thus always question which is the line with the highest EV, not the most convenient one :)
